Mick Stephenson Photography
Following a long career in commercial and editorial photography, Mick lived in Spain for 10 years, later moving to New Zealand to concentrate on raising his kids.
His photographs aim to provoke a powerful sense of place, often using strong graphic elements, largely in subtle duotone with occasional forays into vibrant colour.
A lot of the Spanish images were recorded on a Nikon FE2, using PolaPan slide film, a fragile and unstable medium characterised by heavy grain, rich shadows and a compressed tonal range.
Moving with developments in digital imaging, recent work and upcoming collections exploit the exceptional monotone rendering of systems such as the Sigma DP Merrill and Fuji X-series cameras.
