The Ōtoromiro Hotel, formerly known as the Governors Bay Hotel, was founded in 1870 and is located towards the head of Lyttelton harbour, 20 minutes from central Christchurch or 10 minutes from Lyttelton Township. The hotel enjoys a fine reputation for its gastro-pub fare, a wine list encompassing many local vineyards and a great range of Monteith’s beers on tap. There are 6 guest rooms, all fully renovated and four of which have French doors opening out onto a wide balcony overlooking the Harbour.

Fantastic views out to Quail Island and Lyttelton Harbour await you from the Garden Bar, restaurant, verandah and rooms of the Ōtoromiro Hotel. There are great walks to be had along the shoreline, cycling trips, public gardens and many water based activities within minutes of the Hotel. More importantly, we guarantee professional and friendly service, great coffee, good food, the best of local wines and cool beer when you venture into the Ōtoromiro Hotel.

The hotel is only 20 minutes by car from Cathedral Square, Christchurch, via Dyers Pass Road or 30 minutes via the Lyttelton road tunnel. We are open seven days throughout the year for lunch and dinner from 10am. We can cater for a wide variety of functions from dinner parties, wedding receptions, office parties, corporate planning meetings, birthday parties, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a menu and budget to suit your group.

Our six guest rooms currently offer clean, comfortable and contemporary accommodation with views that are world class. The hotel is proudly independently owned and operated by Jeremy Dyer and Clare Neville-Dyer since 2003.

Restaurant

Our focus in the restaurant is to provide our guests with professional and friendly service whatever the occasion. Our brief to our chefs is to produce all dishes from the base ingredients up. Stocks, soups, cakes and everything departing our kitchen should be prepared in-house ensuring you a quality chef-prepared meal. Wherever possible, we seek the best possible ingredients from what the seasons or markets currently offer (sourced locally if possible). Through the cooler nights expect to be met with a very warming open fire.

Our restaurant is open Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday lunch and for private functions, on any day or night required. Of course, our bar and garden menu is available all day everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. More importantly, whether dining in our restaurant or bar our commitment to quality, good value meals is the same.

Accommodation

Our rooms have recently been refurbished at the Hotel and start from $100.00 per couple inclusive continental breakfast.

Please note that our rooms do not have ensuites although we do have shared bathroom and coffee and tea facilities. What we can offer, however, is unbeatable harbour views of the Bay from our balcony rooms. All of these rooms have queen size beds and basins.

Bar

Our public bar features a roaring open fire in the cooler months or entices you out onto the veranda with one of seven cool beers on tap during summer. Our espresso machine pumps out one of the best coffees on the Peninsula or you can sit and relax with one of the many wines featured by the glass from the Banks Peninsula, Waipara or from further a field.

Our bar is a pokie-free venue, but you can catch the latest games on Sky or sit back and listen to some chilled out music. For those with indoor sports in mind we have table football, a jukebox, pinball and a pool table.

Great value meals are available all day everyday and if the weather is nasty a cosy snug area off the bar can accommodate groups of up to 20.
